From Hiroshima to Tokyo, discover the country's rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and modern contrasts.

Explore a quieter, more refined side of Japan through historic towns, coastal landscapes and culturally rich regions. Beginning in Hiroshima, a guided visit to the city's most significant peace sites sets the tone before a Welcome Dinner with the group. The following morning, board the ferry across Hiroshima Bay to Miyajima Island, one of Japan's most treasured cultural destinations. From Hiroshima, travel to Kurashiki to take in the atmospheric Bikan Historical Quarter, where willow-lined canals, white-walled merchant storehouses and artisan boutiques evoke old Japan. Continue to Okayama and board the Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka, then travel by coach through forested mountains into the remote Kumano region. The seaside town of Kii-Katsuura serves as a base for exploring the sacred UNESCO-listed Kumano area, with a Ki-no-Matsushima coastal cruise and dinners showcasing regional specialties. Osaka brings a shift in pace, trading coastal calm for one of Japan's most energetic city centres. A ride on the bullet train leads to Kanazawa for a day of exploration, before venturing into the Japanese Alps for mountain landscapes and alpine villages. The journey closes with a final rail leg into Tokyo.
